Hey folks, I finally had a few minutes to photo document my latest endeavor… Some of you may recall my pleas for help after I had an escapee turn up missing recently. Well, after his timely return… turtle proofing the pond proved to be a fairly involved project. Part of my building permit (issued by the wife…) required that the pond be made visually appealing as well as functional. Perfect justification for a trip to Home Depot to buy a new power tool! In my opinion, a nice new jig saw should be considered simply indispensable for the construction of a visually appealing and escape proof above ground turtle pond… Funny how my projects always involve “one more trip to Home Depot”… Building ponds is expensive grueling work! I can’t recall making all the trips, but when I counted all the receipts it appears I made approximately 37 trips to Home Depot, the hardware store or the koi pond store over a period of about 48 hours. There was almost an additional trip to the emergency room, but fortunately I was able to reverse the drill and back the screw out of my finger myself before I stripped it completely. 2″ of wood and 2.5” of screw… should have seen that one coming… but I digress. After 2 solid days of sawing, pounding, leveling, occasionally bleeding, and a nearly terminal sunburn I am proud to present “The turtle pond”. I’ve added a series of pictures to my photo folder “JM’s DBT”. I have to admit, just adding some nice flowers really helped it come together. Finally getting one of my Lilies to bloom was a highlight! (can’t believe I just typed that… I’m 33 going on 53… when did I turn into my dad!?!?). Of course, the waterfall still needs some work… I used slate tiles to create a wall effect around the waterfall and I’ve become fairly adept at breaking those darn things with a hammer to the general shape I desire. I figure I get 1 usable piece for every 2000 tiles I destroy… give or take a few… Home Depot says they’ll have to find a new quarry to mine for more slate tiles, so I’ll finish it up when they get more tiles in stock. Did I mention I’m a platinum level customer at Home Depot now? I have my own check-out lane and cashier now. But again, I digress… Well, if anyone has any suggestion on working with waterfall foam or UV clarifiers, those are next on my project list and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Jeremy

That’s great Jeremy! The pond looks fab. And don’t worry about gettin’ old – I went from clubbing all night every night to turtles and gardening in less that 2 years. Turtles and gardening are much more rewarding! Nicolejeremy_mott
