Hi group! I have some questions about my eggs. I was peaking at them with my penlight last night. I could see wee embryos in most of them but only the first ones had lots and lots of arteries. I don’t know if it’s because they are the only viable ones or because they are older.’ Do all laid eggs have embryos? (The crescent shaped shadow) or just those that are likely viable? i dunno. I suppose that they could have all had embryos because she could have had them inside her long enough to incubate them that far. And then perhaps the ones that dropped into the water or she held for longer stopped at that point? Or perhaps they just aren’t as far along as the first couple she popped out first on the sand? I can see what looks like eyes in some of the less vascular ones as well so perhaps the vessels just aren___t as apparent? The only egg with out the crescent shaped shadow is the one torn one. It is pretty hard to see anything inside that one. Likely toast but perhaps it___s just the shape of the shell that is making it more difficult. Not tossing it yet. I know it is still early and as time passes I should know more as to which ones are progressing but I___m hoping someone might have some suggestions as to what I___m seeing. Thank you everyone. I___m hoping more than ever that her eggs hatch out. I had to put Laura (the mom) down a couple of weeks ago. I woke to find her limp like a rag doll. She seemed fine the night before. She never did eat much and after she dropped her eggs I could tell she didn___t have much meat on her. She wouldn___t swallow any of the food or supplements I tried to get into her (solid or liquid). I was so crushed to find her like that. My veterinarian said I did everything I possibly could have but that some turtles just don___t adapt well. She (the vet) was not surprised that Laura seemed fine the night before and then so pitiful the next day. Apparently that is how a lot of the herps behave___ Look fine and then whamm. Guess I should have been more prepared knowing that older wild caughts don___t adapt so well but I was hoping___ was hoping sooo much. Ah well. Now I___m hoping for her eggs. Any ideas on what___s going on with them would be appreciated. Regardless, I think I___ll keep them all for the full period just in case. Good to have them all to compare with if nothing else. Thanks again, Michelle McGuffin me.mcguffin@… ICQ: 277784176
