For a about a year I have kept Sliders, painters, and muds. I have a setup in my yard in New Jersey with a 7′ by 5′ pond fully enclosed with a fence plexiglass and a swinging door. I have always tried to duplicate as much of a natural environment as possible for my turtles. This winter I set up an indoor pond for my adult turtles and another indoor setup for my new hatchlings, including a DBT. Thanks to this forum I think I have a perfect mix of filtration, lighting and food. Here is my question. By turning the UV lights on every day, this is not really duplicating nature. Should I leave the lights off 1 day a week to represent cloudy days? Any opinions would be appreciated, thank you.
Matt, I don’t think that would be necessary, although it wouldn’t hurt. I would aim to replicate the artificial light coming on at sunrise and switching off at sunset. My 2 cents… Chun
