Good grief! I viewed the PBS documentary on Richard Ogust’s odyssey a few days ago, and still am in shock. I anticipated, hoped rather, for the inevitable positive outcome to an inspirational story. That’s the way life rewards the courageous and the committed. Right? I certainly wasn’t prepared.for the appalling tragedy of a life turned to shambles. I felt blindsided. It will take some time for me to reconcile the contradictions the film presents: what are the lessons we should take away as we consider our own efforts to make a difference in the urgent circumstances that threaten so much wildlife.. Is this a story of heroism or folly? I’m haunted by Richard’s reflection that what is important in any action we take is the outcome, the result. If we fail to achieve our objective, the process is meaningless.
I have yet to see the film. It is listed on our PBS schedule but only for the HD subscribers (or maybe it’s just my technological ineptitude), so I missed. If anyone recorded it or knows where I can purchase a copy please advise. Many thanks.
