I usually don’t post or comment on posts but this one got me. First, the UVB you are providing…is it an incandescent or flourescent bulb ? I have heard that Baytril for turtles is bad and therefore have never used it. Aside from the skin eruptions it causes at the injection site, it is supposed to lodge in the liver and kidneys. If you don’t have the proper UV, no vitamin d is going to help and MBD is not reversable, but stoppable. Where do you live and is the temp outside this time of year ever in the high 50’s or mid 60’s ? If so, put the Terrapin outside for a few hours. No bulb no matter what you pay for it provides what natural sunshine does. And UV doesn’t penetrate glass so don’t put them by a window. I don’t have much of an idea what has caused the shell to be soft, I haven’t had any problems ever with my DBTs but more specific information would help with possible troubleshooting by any of us. I have DBTs and deal daily in reptiles of all kinds, especially Beardeds and Veiled Chameleons which both require high UVB and that’s why I felt like posting on this subject. Please answer questions and I’ll know what else to say in regard to this condition. Good luck, Beckee H.
