The Asian grocery that we rescued our turtle from, unfortunately, has more turtles. My mom tells me that they are quite large and quite “pretty” (this is by my mom’s standards–I’m not sure what she means since I think MOSt turtles are pretty). If they are in the same conditions as when I bought my DBT, they are piled in a milk crate sized cardboard box. They sell by the pound, and my DB, which is quite large was purchased for less than $15. If I “rescue” these poor things from becoming soup, I’m afraid that I will inadvertently be encouraging the grocery to continue to sell these. At the same time, I have a hard time hearing about these poor turtles sitting in a box on top of each other and I admit that if I was there, I’d rescue them. They are probably wild caught. I live 12 hours away from my parents, so either way, I won’t be rescuing them simply because I can’t get to the grocery in Cleveland. Anyway, I don’t know what your thoughts are on “rescuing” the turtles in the Asian grocery, but if you want to see what they have and live near Cleveland, Ohio. They are near Superior Avenue in a Chinese Plaza with a restuarant named “Li Wah” attached. I know there are probably lots of groceries around the country that sell DBTs for food, but it is really hard for me to see it! Rowena
greentreesDecember 16, 2000 at 6:52 pm #13937What a dilemma! Darned if you do and darned if you don’t. Do you know what kind (subspecies) they are, or what kind yours is? Or what does it look like? Do they have bumps on the shell? What color? White skin? Spots? Oooooooooooooooooo……..pros and cons either way. Actually, you’re doing well if you’re keeping a large wild caught dbt alive. More than I was able to do. -Rick Rowena Tan wrote:
