Well, I made it to my first Herp show this weekend. There were alot of snakes and Geckos. Man, some of the different species of Geckose are very colorful and beautiful. Anyhow, as I was walking around, I found a guy that had probably 12 turtles in a nice size tub. I looked closer and realized they were DBT’s and all about 4 to 5 inches. They were all very dark, but it may have been due to the lighting. I asked the guy his price and he told me $20-$35! Wow! I asked what species were in the tub and he told me Easterns and Ornates. Now, I’m new to this whole Terrapin thing, but I certainly didn’t see an Ornates…or at least anythat matched any pictures I had seen. My question is this: Can Terrapins lose or change colors? I’m very familiar with fish, which can change colors in a matter of seconds. I was thinking that maybe these guys just needed a little attention to gain some color. I’d hate to think this guy was lying. The ones he said were Ornates had a swirl design on their scutes. (But they were pretty dark) I didn’t purchase any of them, as I was concerned that they were caught in the wild, and may not be eating. I didn’t ask the vendor, which I guess I should have…but I was really looking for something lighter in color anyhow. Just looking for your opinions. Thanks
