Sorry I jumped in with several notes before I wrote out an introduction. My name is Lori Green and I am the Director of Turtle Homes, an adoption service organization for turtles and tortoises. Last year we did over 400 individual rescues. But that is what I do and this is my personal hobby interest. I fell in love with diamondbacks almost immediatly. Several years ago I bought an illegal diamondback from a petstore. I had no idea what I was buying. I bought it because it was cute. That started it. A year later I discovered a diamondback adult sitting on my neighbors driveway one early spring morning. Much to my delight I learned that there was a large diamondback population living right down the street from me. Literally only houses away. I guess I never looked before. I now know where the petshop got the illegal hatchling I purchased. Well I took that large female back to my house. I wanted to show my husband. It hissed at me and backed fearfully into it’s shell. I placed the turtle into a tub of water and went to get my husband. When he got outside the turtle was gone. Later that day I found it again but unfortunately it had been killed by a car. It was in that same fearful position I saw it in when I got it. Something inside of me said to do something. Obviously she was looking for someplace to nest. I removed her eggs and one of three hatched out. Unfotunately it died when it was around 6 months old but the ! love for these diamondbacks has grown. I have written up caresheets and even had an article published in the Tortoise Trust Newsletter on them. I have participated in a rescue and release through the NYTTS. I am currently fighting to save the wetlands from development by my home and I have rescued more of them than I can count though various means. Basically they are my heart. In other letters I will explain what my current situation is with them and the land they nest in. I have some problems here with that but this is my introduction, my way of letting you know who I am.
