My Turtle is rubbing her shell on rocks???

HI everyone — just wondering if anyone can confirm my conclusion??…….. so my four year old female has started rubbing her shell ( the top of it) on rocks – She is basking as normal (5 or so hours a day)- and I was thinking she is trying to shed scute off– but I dont really SEE any shedding going on… is it possible that she is shedding and I just cant tell? — She is compleltly fine though otherwise. – Thanks Heather
Heather, While I don’t pretend to have the knowledge and experience of many others on this forum, I do know that turtles love to have their shells scratched! My large Texan acts just like a cat, moving his carapace back and forth to maximize the pleasure. It’s an indication that the shell of the turtle is quite sensitive to feel. Dick

Heather, if she was ready to shed, you would be able to see two things: 1) the edges of her scutes will begin to lift and 2) you may see air trapped under the some of the scutes. -Stephen c — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, heather polechio
