Yesterday I posted a message about my new diamondback not eating and now today I noticed that one of her nails fell out and that she has what seems to be a blister on her back leg. I believe that the blister might be a burn however the nail falling out is a great concern. She appears to be healthy and her skin appears clear, her eyes are clear, and her shell is clear. I am extremely worried at this point and before I make a trip to the vet, I would like to know if anyone has any feed back. Although this is my first diamondback, I have never had a problem with water quality or health concerns with any of my other aquatic turtles which I have kept for several years. I am extremely worried as I believe she might have an infection that occured before i obtained her.

I had a dbt lose a nail last year to either a bite wound or an infection. That turtle was otherwise healthy and has been with me for several years so i was familiar with its eating habits and behavior and did not notice anything else unusual. I treated it with neosporin and it healed nicely. Your situation may be different though because you have only recently acquired the turtle and have seen evidence of some other potential issues (appetite and lethargy). I think your best course of action is a trip to the vet if they are knowledgable about reptiles. Ed — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “capybura123”
