I live on the bay in long island NY and I have caught a large female a few times on my lawn. I enjoy seeing her from time to time during the summer. I found her babies a couple of time after they were ran over in the street. Last year in october I found a one month hatchling. I thought it wouldnt survive the winter because it was very late in the season and it was already cold. I got it to eat pinhead crickets as I saw a ton of baby camelback crickets in my yard. I had it about a two months and it got sick and died because I wasnt keeping the tank warm enough I had a heat lamp but couldnt keep the water warm. I also had a tough time keeping it clean as I only kept 1 inch of water in a ten gallon tank. The shell also got soft. I probably should of coated the crickes in calcium. I found another hatchling about the size of a half dollar no yoke. Changed my set up. I have a 10 gallon turtle tank filled half way. I have a small heater set to 78F. I have a float a plastic plant and fake drift wood for decoration. No substrate. I also have an aquaclear 30. A 60 watt herp bulb in a clamp lamp attached to the aquarium rim. I also have a thermometer in the tank. I also put 8 guppies in the tank as a food source. I thought of putting in a piece of romain lettuce. I have already raised a painted turtle from 2 inches. I have kept it for ten years on pellets and krill. So I am familiar with turtle care. Can you please tell me if I need to change my set up. Also if there is anything in paticular I need to know about terripins or raising hatchlings. I looked at a couple of site and didnt find them too detailed. Thanks Vince
