Hello there everyone! I’m new to the dbacks, and i plan on getting a few in the next couple of days. Anyway, I would like any suggestions, thoughts, ideas about the tank and water setup from any of your personal experience. As it is now, I was planning on a 55 gallon (for two dbts at the most) with a canister filter, a decent size basking area (piled rocks and/or wood) and a large swimming area. Of course, there would be uv lights, heat lamps and a water heater as well. The kinds of things that I’m mostly wondering about is depth of swimming area, substrate on the bottom, best salinity levels, and things like that. I was hoping to get some information out of you nice people who have much more experience than me :). Anyway, any responses and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, -Dan

That tank measures 36″x18″x16″. You want surface area as the first consideration. Depth is usually about 3/4 of the tank’s height to allow for a small basking area. They are great swimmers, so as much depth as possible without them splashing water out or climbing out. I highly recommend washed river rock (1 to 1.5″) piled 2 layers deep as a substrate. It’s easy to clean around and they love digging in it. It also cannot be ingested like gravel or sand. Adding salt to the water isn’t necessary as they thrive in freshwater as well. Mine is… As for the cannister, I’d go with a Fluval 404 or Rena Filstar XP3. Both are good filters that cost around $100… Walt G. —–Original Message—– From: bfd27 [mailto:bfd27@…] Sent: Thursday, June 06, 2002 11:55 AM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] Need tank setup help/advice Hello there everyone!
