I have a new baby (well 3 inches) that is WC. I have set up an aquarium, I believe all I am lacking is crushed coral for calcium. I believe I have a male, not really sure (long tail…?). I absoulutley love him!!!!! He doesn’t seem to want to sit on his basking float. Is that okay? Also, I don’t see him eat, but I think he is. Do they usually eat solitary? Otherwise, he seems really social. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help!!Dana N. Mixa, R.V.T. Yahoo! Music Unlimited – Access over 1 million songs. Try it free.

Hi Dana, Out of curiosity, what subspecies is he and where did you get him from? I am sure he’s just adjusting to his new environment. Once comfortable, he will have no qualms basking and eating in front of you. I would just make sure that his basking float is situated under a heat lamp so he can dry out. -Stephen — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Dana Mixa

Thanks for the response Stephen! He is a Texas DBT. He was retrieved from a private beach near the areas of Galveston and Bolivar Pen. I actually brought him home some crushed coral last night and he is nibbling on that some. I also decided to get him a few small rosy feeders. He ate one right away and has been hunting the other 3, but has been unable to catch another. I am still offering him ReptoMin and another floating turtle food I was rec, but he doesn’t seem interested. Still no success with the basking float. I did get a UVB/UVA (is that the correct abrev?) light (the comb. light was rec by the vet I work for), but he’s not really utilizing it. I also have a florescent lite and a water heater (water temp- 80 F). He is bright and alert. He seems happy. He is shedding his old skin, the new is so beautiful! No signs of skin and/or shell rot or any other probs. Thanks for all your help!! I love my new baby!!!!! -Dana Dana N. Mixa, R.V.T. Yahoo! FareChase – Search multiple travel sites in one click.
