hi all, my daughter recently brought home 2 very young dbts (about 1 month), and we’re wondering what do they eat. at this young age i think the food pellets she brought home together with the dbts looks too hard and difficult for the young ones. we are singaporeans and apparently not many people here keep dbts and thus a bit difficult to get good advice until we found this group. we placed them in a one by two feet tank, they are very active always moving about, when we drop in the food pellets they dont seem interested. please advice on what other food sources we could use to feed them. regards. marc
Victor LeeFebruary 21, 2002 at 4:46 am #16762Hi, I live in Hong Kong. I have 2 dbts too. I feeded them with live fresh-water fishes, shrimps. Sometimes I give them beef (very small pieces). Since we can easily get some sea fish, I frozen some sea fish and cut the meat from the fish to feed them. They are growing very fast. And of course, I give the food pellets as well. Hope this information can help you. Victor At 05:16 PM 2/21/02, you wrote:
diamondback_terrapinFebruary 21, 2002 at 6:14 am #16763Welcome to the group, Marc. I was not aware that diamondbacks were sold in Singapore. Are you sure your daughter brought back diamondbacks and not red-ear terrapins? Please go to this website to verify: http://www.geocities.com/dterrapin Victor’s recommendations should work. In addition, you could try tubifex worms, ghost shrimp and guppies from the local fish store. All the best. Chun Tail Moderator
ReptileszzFebruary 21, 2002 at 7:35 am #16764Hi, I had the same problem when I got my tiny ones back in Sept. I bought the baby reptomin and broke that in half. I would crush up the big pieces you have and try that in addtion to live small worms like tubifex or bloodworms. I was told mine were only eating live but within days were eating the pellets. CArole
J.M. MoonFebruary 21, 2002 at 9:55 am #16765Hi Marc, The food pellets are probably a very good choice, if they are made by a good reputable maker, such as Wardley, Mazuri or Nutrafin. I would also try some worms. They sound so tiny, they won’t eat much. Besure to keep the water warm, between 76 and 80 to encourage them to eat. With little ones I keep the water about 80 and reduce the heat when they are several months old. Also be sure to change the water regularly (and make sure it is warm). Diamondback’s are very sensitive to dirty water. Judith J.M. Moon – Peaceful Acreshttp://home.earthlink.net/~peacefulacresDo not do an act of kindness, instead live a life of kindness.
