We located the owner of the pit tagged diamondback. This is a significant find. It’s going to be the first documented proof that the animals are being taken from the area the study is in. I can’t give all the details of this at this time but it seems this particular turtle is going to make a big difference in the near future. In speaking with these people I have learned that some of these animals have been found in food markets up to 3 times! We are going to become monitors for this study now in NY and we are working out the details for a joint effort that may be able to change legislation in the state they were caught. Unfortunatly I still can’t release them here in NY but the state the study is in does allow the release of these pit tagged animals for scientific purposes. So far we have raised enough money to purchase 45 adult females out of the soup pot. In addition to this we were able to get out around 20 painted turtles. Lori Green Director, Turtle Homes
