In my ignorance, I bought two diamondbacks from a pet store, and also a red eared slider — for my children. We built a pond, about eighteen feet long, four feet wide, 3 feet deep — with a waterfall at one end. It has a pump and filter and constantly recycles. There are aquatic plants. I live in the San Fernando Valley. We’ve had all this for about two months. Neither dmt will bask on the basking rocks on the pond. Maybe they’re too vulnerable. (The slider does bask) Instead the dmt’s kind of go up the sides of the pond to dry off. The walls of the pond had been made high to keep the turtles from escaping, but now I’ve opened one area up so that they can get out if they want to, and their only exit is back into the water. I don;t know if it’s a good idea to keep two different speicies together — and I don;t know how much salt to put in the pond. It’s getting colder now, and they seem lethargic. They’ve never eaten anything but krill. Turn up their noses at anything else. and they’ve never touched the i5 or so feeder fish in the pond. I now realize I should not have gotten these guys bfroma store — but I’ve got them now, and one of them has gopt some white spots on his shell. I’ve only just found your website, and I eed some adv

how large are they? and i have the same problem with the feeders. i bought like 5 dollars in feeders and they didn’t eat any of them… but they will eat the smelt that i buy them from the store… which is cheaper then feeders. it’s like 2 dollars a pound… it is getting cold now… you might want to keep the turtles indoors or something for the winter. it wouldn’t be a bad idea. or get a heater for your pond.. but that would cost too much haha. oh for the basking problem.. maybe you should get some cork wood that floats on the water. you can get it at most pet stores.. i know one in burbank has them. good luck. john

How big are they, how cold is the pond, have you tested the water lately. Are you sure the DBT’s can get on the basking spot. Are there shells soft? — justsam3906 http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/
