Hi all….I have an adult female and a male hachling. Does anyone know how fast the babies grow? Can you feed them too much? Is it ok to just feed him dried shrimp? or do I need to just use that for treats? Is it really true that they don’t grow as fast if they are in a small tank? I have him in a small tank for when i can’t supervise him in the pond. I let him swim in the pond for a few hours at a time. He really loves exploring. I am just crazy about him and want him to be happy like his future girlfriend. thanks lora
Hi! I’m sure there will be other replies but this is my experience – I have two “rescued” dbts, both were small when I got them (the size of a nickle to a quarter). I originally kept them (separately) in 10 gallon tanks, and fed them once or twice a day. they grew really fast and when they were about the size of tangerines (i’m not good with inches – can you tell?) I moved them to a bigger tank together. Maybe after about a year. They originally fought each other but over the last year have come to some kind of understanding. So anyway I don’t think a small tank would inhibit their growth much at an early stage, at least. Also, you should probably use the dried shrimp for treats and try to feed him something that has all the nutrients he needs – maybe Mazuri turtle food or Reptomin (both available at PetSmart) both for dietary reasons and so he doesn’t get spoiled. One of mine only would eat raw hamburger at first – so weird – but finally got over his pickiness and will now eat anything. Good luck, and I hope this is helpful! Nicolelittlebit66046
