Hi, I just received two DBTs from turtle town, one northern and one concentric, the northern has some sort of a skin fungus. The turtles are about 4 weeks old, they were raised in fresh water and seem to be doing fine other then the infection on the skin. Can you guys please tell me: 1) what exactly is the problem (infection, fungus etc) 2) how can I treat him? I read all the sick turtle protocols on various websites but I don’t have all my questions answered. Is their a treatment I can put on, should I put him in salt water or will that make things worse later on (I want to keep in fresh if possible). If I put some sort of ointment on him should I dry dock? If so, for how long? 3) I’m putting him into a “hospital” tank I had set up incase of a problem, the water temp is 82, basking about 95. Should I add salt? Change water frequently? Any tips suggestions any information would be awesome! I posted some pictures on this turtle forum, here’s the link: http://www.turtletimes.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17095 Also there are some pics in my briefcase, here’s the link http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ploy22/album?.dir=/e51e&.src=ph&stor e=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/ploy22 I also put some pictures in the photos section. Thanks for your help. D. Hendrick
Diamondback Terrapin WorldJune 11, 2004 at 2:07 am #19777Hi, I would suggest changing the water and added Acriflavin to the tank. As long as you have good filtration you shouldn’t have to change the water to often. You could add a little bit of salt but don’t go to crazy. Keep us posted.
