Hello Group, Being down the shore on vacation I was driving on Ocean Drive and saw Turtle Crossing signs. I said if I see a turtle, he/she will go home with me. I did find an adult turtle crossing the road and released it safely.( I preferred a young turtle to grow with.) This week I was going fishing and spotted Nummy crossing the road and picked him up– It took me some time but I realized what kind of turtle he is and have been looking for how I should home him. I also am looking to get him a freind; so I am guessing a fellow diamond back would be best. I can get a 55 Gallon aquarium. I did get some pellet food and have kept him in a small bucket with water to cover him and aa place of dry land. Thanks for any advice– Kevin & Dawn

Attachments :That’s how mine started. First in a bucket, then a 10 gallon, 30 gallon, and a 65 gallon. 22 years later my male has moved into the high rent district with his new 160 gallon. Now it’s time to get him some friends. How old are your DBTs? I’m brand new to the group by the way….Here’s a pic also — broknarrw3

Dan- I just found him a few days ago and he/she is just a baby that was crossing the road. There was also one that was dead from being hit by a car– I turned around to get mine. In search of what kind of turtle he is, I figured I’d start looking for a friend for him and find out these bad boys are expensive. I figured I could spend $25 or something. I guess I’ll have to go back looking for one. I intend on growing with my new friend. I also noticed that pleco in your tank– was he a baby when you started? I raised Oscars when I was a teen and had the pleco grow with the Oscars. Actually the Pleco came with the tank when I bought it (used). He was already that big. They have become good friends very quickly but the Pleco lacks the patience for the curious terrapin. I don’t know what I’d do if I saw a dead one, probably get sick on the spot. I really think they are the coolest turtles you can get…. — KnD Hance
