Hello out thereI Does anyone know what the NY state laws are with regard to owning a diamondback terrapin? A local petstore said they are against the law yet an officer at the NY State Dept of Wildlife said he never heard of that but he wasn’t sure. I would like to get one shipped to me (buy it through the internet) but am afraid that I’ll get into trouble. If anyone knows, please advise-Any info is appreciated. Hi Christene, I do believe diamondbacks are illegal commercially in NY, but I also know of people that keep them there. If I were you, I would pursue the Dept. of Wildlife again and press them for a definitive answer. I’m sure you’d be able to get a permit to keep them somehow… All the best! Chun Tail Moderator
