ok, my DB is in brackish water (as i have told everyone). the question is: do they need to drink fresh water? or do they drink the brackish water (i know they excrete the salt in the water through a duct in their eye) i know johnathon said he feeds his in freshwater so they can drink.

think about nature. if they live in brackish water naturally, they don’t migrate to freshwater to “drink” (that I know of). Again, if it’s a captive bred DBT, you don’t need to mess with brackish water. They do great in fresh water and don’t know or care about the difference! 🙂 Walt —–Original Message—– From: nikkicoco11 [mailto:nikkicoco11@…] Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2002 10:48 AM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] ONE MORE QUESTION ok, my DB is in brackish water (as i have told everyone). the question is: do they need to drink fresh water? or do they drink the brackish water (i know they excrete the salt in the water through a duct in their eye) i know johnathon said he feeds his in freshwater so they can drink. Most diamondbacks in the wild have no access to freshwater. Consequently, I don’t think they need to drink freshwater but it wouldn’t hurt them. You’ll save on maintenance too if you feed them outside their tanks in freshwater. Chun Tail Moderator — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, “nikkicoco11”
