Hello all, I and a friend of mine talked about ornate’s skin color. My friend insisted that the typical true ornate color should be bone white. And I said that the true ornate should have light blue (very light grey) and pinkish color, bone white is not a typical color of the ornate. What can be said about typical color of ornate? Thanks. Danny

All of those colors are typical for true ornates. It just depends on genetics.dasom97

Danny, typically, ornate skin color comes in varying shades of grey. The lightest ones are whitish, but I would not consider them bone white like some concentrics. Light blue, lavender and pink can also be found. A single population will exhibit predominantly grey coloration but have a few individuals exhibiting the other colors. They are a very dark grey where their habitats overlap with the mangrove and Mississippi diamondbacks. The whitish ones, I would consider more of an ashy color and are less common, as are the pink ones. -Stephen C — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “dasom97”
