Since I can’t really seem to be able to search here and find what I’m looking for, I figure I’ll just ask again and get the input of the group. I have 3 young Northerns, around 7 months, and my wife has been asking me for months about whether or not it would be safe to put in other types of animals, particularly some sort of algae-eater or bottom-feeder, but also just fish in general? Provided that the fish aren’t themselves aggressive or territorial, are there any species of fish or other aquatic life that will be able to get along with the DBTs without becoming a meal? I haven’t done much with non- pellet food for them yet beyond occassionally a bit of shrimp, so it would seem to me that if they learn early enough to deal with it, that it could work out alright, but I don’t know, it’s just a guess of mine. Have any of you had experiences successfully integrating DBT’s with other fish or whatnot? I’d love to hear some feedback on it. Thanks, Apshai
You will find opinions vary. My own personal advice is, if you want fish make sure they are small and fast. I find guppies work well. Provide areas that are only fish sized for shelter. Fish add extra colour to the tank and provide exercise for the DB’s. Guppies breed quickly so any you loose should soon be replaced, and you will lose. That’s my 2 cents Victoria Concordia Crescit
