OK, not mine…………the turtles!!! My 6 year old RES that shares a tank with an almost 3 year old Female DB was the poor guy that got bit. He doesn’t “show off” his thingy that often, so this may have been the first time that my Female got a good look. I guess it looked quite tasty??? The RES wasn’t trying to mate or anything so the bite wasn’t any type of aggression. Anyway, she got a good hold of it and didn’t want to let go! The RES swam a good 3 or 4 feet (dragging the female behind him) before I was able to jump up and bang on the glass. She let go at this point and the Male was able to pull “it” back in with no problems, but he then urinated a puff of blood out. I watched him pretty good and only a few tiny specs of blood came out after that. I didn’t see any other blood come out after 10 minutes or so after the bite, so I have to assume that he was done bleeding rather quickly. So my question is this……………Any thing to worry about here? Could there be some swelling that takes place now? What should I be on the look out for? All behavior between the 2 turtles is completely normal and was so immediately after the bite as well. I’m not even sure if the RES knows who did the biting??? He’s up basking right now. Thanks for any and all advice on this! Take care, Jimbo

LOL! I have never experienced this before with my turtles but judging by the blood loss, he should be fine. You might add a little extra salt in your setup to help guard against any possible infection. On the other hand, I have heard of mutilations where the turtle died from the blood loss. -Stephen C — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “jimbo_craig”

Congratulations! Your turtle has been circumcised – the other red ear is obviously a moyle red ear and it did the job it was trained to do. You now can be certain you own the chosen turtle! — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “jimbo_craig”

Hi Jimbo,Has the male pulled his penis back into his tail? It is very important you keep an eye on it. This happened to a friend of mine’s male ornate DBT and he was unable to retract it. After serveral days he could tell the bite wasn’t healing properly. After a week he brought he to a vet, they monitor him for a little while. When the penis looked worse they finally had to remove a large portion of his penis.Good LuckJonathan Helmswww.diamondbackterrapin.comFrom: jimbo_craig
