Hi all, I posted this over on TF but wanted to get a response from DBT people specifically as well. I’ll try to keep it short. I received this DBT on March 8th and he had some scutes that appeared to be chipped (pic1) but they did not look bad. Recently I was checking all my guys and noticed the scutes in question were brownish/red and somewhat pliable when I pressed them. I bought betadine, polysporin, a soft toothbrush and shallow rubbermaid today but was unable to let the dbt dry because I felt he was too stressed. He jsut scrambled all over the whole time. So, is this rot and if so how can I make the dbt more comfortable out of the tank to accomplish what needs to be done? Tank specifics (300Gallon rubbermaid, 76-77 F freshwater, FX5 and XP3 filtration, ReptileUV 100w self-ballasted bulb) A few days after arrival: http://www.ehike.org/turtles/dj_scutes.JPG Today (3 wks later) http://www.ehike.org/turtles/djrot1.jpg Today (3 wks later) http://www.ehike.org/turtles/djrot2.jpg Thanks for your time! It looks to me like just a chipped shell and its shedding to heal itself. My large cooter kept chipping her shell when she dove off the basking area and those scutes would always be shedding as they tried to grow back. If it is shell rot I can’t tell from those photos. I have been lucky not to have any shell rot problems yet. Hopefully someone else on here with more experience with shell rot can help you out. Michaela
