Raccoons can be a problem, but I have an idea that might work; an electric fence. The controllers are sold at most home improvement stores for under $40.00 US, and the wire is cheap. I have run into a couple of them in my wanderings, and would have to be awfully hungry to try getting across one a second time…… Also, to whom do I send my observations of wild DBT’s? I think there are others on the list who can be helpful, as some live near their habitat. The other Alex Alex NethertonThe Appalachian NaturalistAsheville, NChttp://www.appalachian-naturalist.com

Thanks Alex, I have seen “chicken wire” or other weld wire used as a cannopy at night or when the ponds are unattended. The mesh is then attached to the shock controller and is also anchored down. This can be plugged in and unplugged when needed. Dogs, cats, and kids learn quickly but Procyon (Thanks again) are very persistent, hense anchor it down. I set up one such as this for a small goldfish pond and as a garbage can shield. A 110V has also been done for stubborn dogs. I assume this would do for the raccoons as well. Be careful: Water+electricity+(certain levels of commonsense)= a bad situation. Thanks again, Scott — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, “Alex Netherton”
