I don’t usually post on the Group but have some concerns lately. Austin who received two rescued females was told to mix his water for them to 1.023 specific gravity. I thought for years brackish water was 1/2 marine, 1/2 regular water. Wouldn’t the 1.023 be way too strong ? I also have done a 1T per gallon of water mix with success. I read lots about turtles being injected with mostly Baytril for various ailments. My experience is that the Baytril lodges in turtles liver and kidneys and caused further damage. I have successfully used Amikacin on snakes and even on a rather large Sulcatta with an acute respiratory infection that it wiped out completely. I believe Chew was mentioning Cipro also recently but it is very expensive and only in pill form inthe States so would have to be compounded. There is another good one and I cannot find my book to get the name. It is widely used in snakes though. I’ll try to find the name. Just wanted to add my two cents worth. Thanks, Beckee
Beckee, I do concur that full saltwater is too strong. There is risk of dehydration at this salinity level you mentioned. We generally recommend 1.017-1.019sg. You could be right about Baytril but it still seems to be the drug of choice with veterinarians. Amikacin is good for treating liver/kidney problems. -Chun — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “beckwoo2002”
