Hello, I bought a couple of DBT’s back in November, and they were relatively the same size. Well, one is nearly 4inches big, and the other hasn’t grown really at all staying around 1 1/2 inches. I was positive that the breeder I recieved them from mentioned they were of the same clutch. Anyways, the larger of the two has become sort of agressive, he bullies the smaller turtle all of the time, especially when hungry. I meant to ask, does anyone know why one eye would be larger than the other? I mean, its almost twice the size of the other eye ball. Back to the aggressiveness, when it started I thought he was being honory, but as time has progress, about a month, its getting worse. He hasn’t drawn blood, but if he gets the smaller one on the neck, or on a softer area, Im sure it will be bad. He/She won’t leave the little turtle alone, and I even have them in a 65 gallon setup now, compared to the 20 gallon, they have plenty of swimming room, and its definately not overcrowded.. Any suggestions on the angry behavior, or the larger eye ball? Another thing, my DBT’s are afraid, or dislike feeder fish, or any raw fish in general including shrimp, tuna, crab and clam. They also won’t eat veggies, though I throw it in their feeder tub every day. They’ve been raise on ReptoMin Pellets, and crickets. Hi! I have two dbts as well; they are both the same size (3-4 inches) but one bullies the other and has actually drawn blood on the head once or twice. It sounds like you need to separate them – at least temporarily, until the little guy gets bigger. I had one of mine in a ten gallon tank and one in a twenty gallon for a while. If you don’t want two tanks set up, you can buy a cheap tank divider at the pet store. It has holes to let the water through, but keeps the turtles apart. I used one finally when I couldn’t stand having two tanks in one tiny room. Now, after all kinds of bother, they are finally getting along. As far as the one guy being so small, that doesn’t sound normal at all – is he eating? One of mine was very tiny and dehydrated when I got him, and wouldn’t eat anything for a long time. I finally got him interested in some bits of – I know it is weird – raw hamburger. Once he started to eat that (just tiny bits dropped into the water with him) he started to grow almost right before my eyes! You might also try tempting him with raw shrimp or fish. The large eye sounds strange – I don’t know anything about that, but maybe some of the more experienced folks here can help you. Good luck and I do hope it all works out OK!
