Candace, As long as he is growing he is probably just fine. You might try to very his diet if you can. I don’t think shrimp has enough nutrition all by itself. Try Reptomin also an earthworm might be tempting. Does he bask? I don’t really know about the growth rate of Texas dbts. My Ornates grow like weeds but I have seen some of Mimi’s dbts and they seem to grow more slowly. They also seem to be more delicate looking such as smaller heads and more finely shaped. They are beautiful and my Ornates seem clunky in comparison to them. Don’t get me wrong I love my Ornates but they grow fast and a little chubby. I feed mine Reptomin and trout chow. Also, they always have a bird calcium block in their tank which they take big bites out of. I tried a cuttle bone but they seem to have trouble getting a good grip on it for a bite as it just floats away when they try. They bask all the time while floating on their cork island. At night they sleep under it. Good lucky with your baby. Vickie
