Hello all…I am new to this group and in need of some advise. I have four diamondbacks that were rescued after Hurricane Fran in 1996, here in eastern N.C. We have permits for them as I am the director of an Environmental Ed. Center, so we share the turtles for youth/adult education about local endangered/threatened species. These four (3 females and a male) are all siblings, and have lived in tanks their entire lives…very healthy! ๐ Just recently, we built an outdoor habitat for the terrapins on the banks of the Neuse River (where our Center is located). It is very similar to the habitat they were found in after the hurricane…sandy bottom, brackish water, etc. However, since going outside daily for doses of fresh, natural sunshine, the terrapins have developed brown patches on the bottoms of their feet and between their toes. I’m not sure if this is from digging, or maybe the concrete bottom of the pool (which is covered with sand but some concrete does get exposed by the turtles themselves), or possibly an infection. They are not open wounds, but seem more like calluses or something. I’m not sure if I need to treat them medically or not…any advise would be greatly appreciated!! We want them to stay healthy and happy for many years to come! Thanks for the assistance….Windy Arey Kent
