I have typically had success with fertility ( have found that light, food, and temperature cycles are all very important. Females seem to develope unshelled eggs after the last clutch in a season. An overweight mature female in summer, fall, and winter is a good thing. Overweight prior to hibernation with either sex is also desired. An abundance of food usually stimulates males to breed in the fall and spring. Several small meals (eg twice daily) seems to work better than 1 large meal every few days. Of course, a balanced diet is of priority. A small amount of extra fat is good for egg producing females. Egg yolks are primarily lipid in content. Just a bit of info to add to the other comments.
