I have seen shell “pitting” in wild terrapins in FL. It seems there is a difference in pitting from shell rot and some other pitting that I have seen. In older wild terrapins I have seen pits that are remarkably similar to what a borer sponge will do to a conch shell. If the freshwater terps are getting shell pitting, is this due to a sensitivity to shell rot in fresh water or the fungus just being more prevalent in dirty fresh water, or some of both. If the fresh water is soft and acidic then this could leach calcium from their shells. But if the fresh water is hard and alkaline, such as water with a coral substrate, then I have not seen a problem. Interesting subject… Scott diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com wrote:
