Jim, Learning the hazards of herping their environment is what I’d be concerned about as well. I’m curious to know them myself. W/ my familiarity of being in their habitat I’d be the one wearing a shirt that says “Gator Bait” hoping they have a sense of humor ๐ Keith <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Message: 1 Date: Sun, 12 Jun 2005 12:48:39 -0400 From: Jfloyd@...Subject: RE: Re: Jim's Texas Gulf Coast trip (was O rnate Diamondback Terrapin) Keith, Thanks for the links. A wealth of information! After talking to Rich, heoutlined the hazards of herping tidal pools. Being a land lubber, I'llneed some prep time in order not to bumble around down there willy-nilly,and definitely need an experienced guide. The trip coming up will take ussouth of littoralis territory, but it will give me a chance to get a feelfor the coastal habitat. Field herping is old hat for me, but the tidalpools are something new. Someday I hope to have theopportunity myself. Here's a link you may find interesting. It's to a study that was done onSouth Deer Island in Galveston Bay back in '01& '02.You'll need Adobe to view it. Interesting info and a couple of nice pics.http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2003/ofr03-022/pdf/03-022.pdf<http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2003/ofr03-022/pdf/03-022.pdf another survey that was done near Corpus Christi, in NuecesBay & at the mouth of the Nueces River back in '97. They apparently captureda little over a hundred Littoralis in this study.
