I agree that Orenstein’s Turtle, Tortoises and Terrapins is indeed an excellent book particularly textually. Please be advised, however, that there are some problems with the captions for some of the photos, which obviously misidentify the species depicted. Without going into the gory details (which will be covered in more detail is “in press” reviews I have written for World Chelonian Trust and CRF’s Turtle and Tortoise Newsletter), pay particular attention to Smooth Softshells and Chicken Turtles, among others. Ron may be forgiven for this, however, as he is primarily an ornithologist and I believe the mistaken ids are largely attributable to the original photographers. In all other respects, Ron has produced an admirable turtle book indeed. While on the subject be on the look-out for yet another new worldwide review of turtles due to be released latter tthis year.
