You need a UVB light over your basking area. That will facilitate Vitamin D3 absorption just fine. If you give them a balanced turtle pellet diet and maybe some dried gammarus shrimp, that should provide all the vitamins and nutrients they need. You can supplement it with vegetation (like Anacharis) in their tank that they can snack on at will. You can also give them chunks of the soft part of a cuttlebone for additional calcium. You can also treat them with worms, feeder fish, crickets, mealworms, crabs, etc. OCCASIONALLY as a treat… Good luck! I know no aquarium lights can duplicate natural sunlight and only natural sunlight can properly facilitate calcium and vitamin absorbtion for proper shell and bone growth, so what is the common practice out there?
