Vitamin B-12, You will probably need a series of injections at this point to supplement. The sooner the better. Scott diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com wrote:

I took the turtle to a vet and we are running a course of Baytril. It has had five injections and does not appear to be much improved.I’ll ask about the B-12 shots. I had one of the other three turn up dead on its back on a land area they use to crawl out on. I am pretty dissapointed because they all have been growing, gaining weight, and have excellent shells. I have been feeding zoo med, flukers, and mazuri. They have all been good eaters. The pellets have been refrigerated. Could that affect the vitamin content of the pellet? — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Scott

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Does the vet know what is causing this??? What did s/he say about the vitamin deficiency? And what is the cause for Baytril? Do they have a bacterial infection??? From what I understand freezing will cause vitamins to disintegrate, but to what degree, I do not know. I would not think it would be enough to cause any major problems. However, I would recommened switching to Reptomin and then supplementing with a cuttle bone, fish that have been quaratined for parasites, and collard greens or anachris if you can get them to eat it to help supplement vitamins. You can also buy powder to sprinkle on their regular favorite foods to be sure they are getting the nurtients they need. I can never go wrong with freeze dried shrimp covered with vitamins. one of my turtles had real leg paralysis. the knee swelled up on one leg… all i did was, take it to a vet and the vet gave it a antibiotic shot. it seemed to work. i did keep them dry for a week and only let them in the water for a hour a day. it seem to work. — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “kvmadewell”
