An owner has offered to sell me a 1 yr-old macrospolita for $125. He (the turtle, not the owner) measures 1.5 inches. The owner tells me he eats “reptimin, ghost shrimp, guppies, romaine, and crabs.” Does the size sound about right? This will be my first DBT./
He sounds small compared to the experience I have had with macros. Mine are usually about 3 1/2 inches at 1 year. Have you seen photos of the yearling? I have heard that some people sell dbts as macros when they really aren’t. Vickie

Even slower growing subspecies should be able to attain at least 2.5″ within a year. 2) I seriously doubt that this is a macrospilota. Macros are very, very rare and will probably be a lot more than $125. On top of that, macros are fast growers and he should be at least 3″ by now. Most likely, what you’re being offered is an ornate northern with light skin and dark blotches on its skin; and a runt on top of that… Be careful. Chun
