Hi, I currently have my baby in a 10 gallon tank, he is 4 inches so I’m thinking it’s time to upgrade. What size should he be in? And if I’m thinking about getting another how big a tank do two need? Also someone mentioned using cork from the cork store as a basking place instead of a rock. What kind of cork should I get, the cork sheets, or what? Also I need to get a light that provides him with UVB light only they only come in the long strips and a fixture that has to sit on top of the tank. I don’t like to have the top closed for my baby. Is there any other way to have this type of light with out a fixture that puts a cover over the tank? Are there other ways for him to get UVB light from another type of light bulb or fixture? Also what type of pH measuring kit do you guys use, and what type of filter do you put your tap water through before placing it in the tank? thanks so much, Elaine

There are supposed to be some incandescent bulbs marketed for the reptile hobby that supposedly put out some UVB but I know very little about them. Maybe somebody else can chime in on this one. Otherwise, have you considered mounting the light against the wall or suspending from the ceiling. Another alternative would be a metal halide but these are very expensive. Only eccentric Alabamans using raccoon powered generators can afford these type. I don’t measure my pH and don’t filter my tap water. I know my tap water pH to be around 8.2. A little chlorine doesn’t harm terrapins any except maybe cause ever slight irritation in the eyes similar to prolonged exposure to pool water chlorine concentrations. On the contrary, chlorine and other heavy metals in tap water can be beneficial to terps. And for those of you that have yet to get into the Holiday season, bah to you! ;D Chun Tail Moderator
