Another quick question, since adding my new acquired male (about 4.5″, 3 or so years old) to my female (about 4.5″, almost 2 years old) the male constantly harasses the female to mate even though she is well under the age/size of sexual maturity at this point. I understand he is just doing his thing and it is to be expected, but will he cease eventually, getting bored or tired of this or will he chase after her until the deed is finally done a few years from now? Haha. I know in nature they kind of just “meet up” and move on. I have never had to observe this in a captive setting. It’s pretty amusing actually and luckily she seems to stand her ground and he isn’t being aggressive in the process.

He will never tire of her! Well, unless you get him a more attractive female companion, that is… -Stephen C — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Scott McDaniel

I figured as much, oh well, I guess it will help her get her exercise, I have never seen her swim or kick (him) so much, haha. They seem to be getting along, at least neither of them bite each other at all and now I have a tank mate that won’t reach 9″ like the one I traded out was on its way to. Thanks for confirming my suspicion though!—– Original Message —-From: Stephen Chew
