I ordered 15 punds of Turtle Brittle from the eNasco web site. I got the order last week and am trying it out. So far, most of my turtles (all species) seem to like it. The most noticeable characteristic is that it sinks immediately. Depending on how you have filters set up, this can lead to it getting pulled to a filter intake rapidly. I have gone to using foam pre-filters on all of my intake tubes, so the turtles just go over and pluck it off the foam. The instructions suggest feeding in shallow 2 to 3 inches of water. So that would work well if you have your turtles eating in a separate feeding tank. The mud and musk turtles like the sinking pellets and my dbts that like to bottom feed are enjoying it. The rest of my turtles that are used to floating pellets are confused but getting the hang of it. I’m still mixing about three or four pellet brands anyway, so they can choose what they like. It all gets eaten one way or another. Turtle Brittle pellets are much less smelly and oily than Aquamax carnivorous pellets, but I think all of my turtles would still prefer the Aquamax, of course. I am alternating and mixing to see what balance might appeal to them while helping keep the tank water cleaner. The hands-down favorite pellet food in my tanks is still T-Rex Juvenile pellets. Every turtle I have goes after T-Rex, including juvenile box turtles. I have a softshell that will only eat LM Farms Tropical Aquatic pellets. Most all of the rest like LM too. Most of mine like Flukers pellets. They are also half colored red like the T-Rex and the LM Farms. All of my turtles seem to go after red pellets first. The Flukers is one of the less expensive brands if purchased in the 3.5 lb jar. Overall, based on cost and the nutrition as per the label, I have to give Turtle Brittle a thumbs up. Todd in Texas

In Response to Tom and Turtle Brittle, I too noticed that the turtles seem to go after the red Flukker pellets first. All of my turtles like Turtle Brittle but there were a few that took a while to get used to it. I also feed my turtles a mix of comercial brands which I supplement with occaisional worms, crickets, a few feeder fish and sprinkles of multi vitamins. I also like to add a few pieces of cuttle bone once a week. My “aquatic turtle mix” consists of Tetra Reptomin Floating food sticks, Turtle Brittle, Flukker Turtle Pellets, ZooMed Aquatic turtle pellets and Wardley Reptile 10 food sticks. With my Diamondbacks the mix contains the Reptomin, Turtle Brittle, Flukker, Kreel and a great product I found called Vitakraft Reptile Mix which contains quite a mix of foods including Gammarus shrimp, small shrimp, water fleas, mosquito larvae, fish meal and things such as wheats, grains, oats and vegatables. crude protein 38 % , crude fat 4.5% , fiber 4.5%, moisture 12.3% Vitamin A 3.69 I.U., Vitamin D3 405 I.U., Vitamin E 32.4 I.U. Their diet is supplemeted with multi vitamins, cuttle bone, fresh shrimp and fresh fish. All my turtles also enjoy Marine fish flakes. I think the marine flakes are better nutritionaly then the tropical flakes. Jimmy

Two of my Diamondbacks, Facet and Carat are rescues. The third I received in a trade. Although I will be building a pond/turtle environment in my yard this spring, I will not be able to put the Diamondbacks out there. This will, however, free up space indoors in my aquariums. I will probably keep each of the Diamondbacks in it’s own 55 gallon tank and use my 125 and 75 gallon tanks for a few of the turtles, I have, that won’t do very well in this climate. The Nicaraguan and Rio Grande Sliders for instance. Although the indoor habitats do not represent the most optimal habitats for Diamondbacks, I will be able to control their diet, water conditions and lighting more closely and hopefully give them full and long lives. Especially the salinity. I believe strongly that they do better in a brackish environment. I just look at the simple fact that they live in brackish water, in the wild, so there IS a reason for this. Why not keep them in brackish water? Sorry to ramble, I just thought I would explain a little about my Diamondbacks and how I am caring for them. Comments welcome and encouraged. Jimmy

Hi everyone, I’m very depressed. I lost everything on my computer and would appreciate if you would send me a link to our club site and if Chun could send me a link to his site. I also ordered turtle brittle but it has not arrived yet, I hope my turtles like it as much as they like everything else they eat. Thanks Dave
