Rock salt

I know a lot of people use rock salt out there, My husband and I were discussing the newest rock salt out here, he uses it at work salting in the winter and we were wondering if anyone has tried it. The rock salt has calcium pellets mixed in with it, I am not sure how long it actually takes for it to desolve, or if the dbt’s eat it if it would cause a problem. Has any one else seen this or used it used this yet? He was aslo concerned with other chemicals that they may put in the rock salt, whether that could possible cause a problem. Carol
