This home is a lot different than where they were found a week ago, at the Asian Food Market on Colvin Avenue. Pathologist Ward Stone of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said, “Some of the ones you just photographed would probably be dead and in a pot cooking or already been eaten. ” Stone says the turtles are a species of concern in the state, but many people illegally sell and buy them for medicinal reasons. The owner of the market was unavailable for comment. Stone says he faces a number of fines. These turtles were most likely bought in New York City, but came from other states. Stone said, “There are three that have tags and are clearly from Maryland. Those terrapins were from Maryland, from Chesapeake Bay. “Three of the turtles will be sent back to Maryland soon. One of the turtles is staying in the Capital Region and calling the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology its new home. Robert Carreau of the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology said, “It’s wonderful to see them and the terrapins are interacting already.
