do terrapins shed their shell? i found a few pieces of my 4 year old females shell on her basking area thanks lora
Yes, DBT’s shed their scutes/shells occasionally just like all turtles (especially while they are younger and actively growing). I believe that males shed their scutes more often than females, but I’m not sure about this??? I would also like some clarification on this. Does one sex shed more often than the other and how often, on average, do captive bred DB’s shed their scutes (once a year…..once every couple of years, etc.)? Thanks, Jimbo
