I have an adult female terrapin – rescued from an alley in downtown Baltimore last winter… she had recovered from injuries and was cruising the pond and eating well until just recently… she started spending most of her time digging on the basking beach a few days ago… I found her this AM lying behind the plants with her back legs stretched out… she was limp and listless and her back legs were very swollen… some of her body was also swollen and protruding from her back shell… I can’t feel any eggs, so I don’t think that’s the problem… she’s been inside in shallow water under a basking light for a few hours now and the swelling seems a little better, but she is still very limp and listless… I can’t get her to a vet until tomorrow… has anyone seen this before? is there anything else I can do for her?
