Anybody have any suggestions as to what is going on with this poor turtle?

The very first thing I would do is to get the turtle into some water with salinity of 1.017. And see if that doesnt arrest the problem. Keep the turtle warm and make sure it has a basking site. If you dont see any improvement in a few days time…I would immediately get the turtle to a veterinarian that specializes in turtles. It sounds like your turtle has shell rot. Good luck …rcftx —————————————————-This mailbox protected from junk email by Matadorfrom MailFrontier, Inc. http://info.mailfrontier.com

Yes, I think it’s SCUD! His bone of the carapace is now exposed. I did soak him , but he’s drying now. I have Siler Sulfadiazine Cream. I may put it on him tonight. Thanks, Dom

Also you can try to get some Nolvasan…or tincture of iodine to put on the open areas to further prevent infection and to start the healing process. you may want to alternate between treatments of iodine on the open areas while dry docking the turtle overnight in a warm dark box. Then during the day put the turtle in a tank with water of a salinity of 1.017 and keep maintaining the treatment…hopefully within a few days you will see some improvement. You can get a salinity measuring device from any salt water tropical fish store. The turtle should be kept at a constant temperature of at least 85 degrees and during the day while the turtle is in the water make sure you get a vitamin D basking light. Again …Good Luck…rcftx —————————————————-This mailbox protected from junk email by Matadorfrom MailFrontier, Inc. http://info.mailfrontier.com
