Hi, I’m new to being a terrapin owner, and a turtle owner for that matter, and I’ve got a few questions. I’m setting up a 75-gallon tank for three CB terrapins, hatchlings, but intend to keep them around a good long while. I’ve already decided that I don’t want to have to deal with gravel or substrate and an undergravel filter, and I think I get the whole UVA/UVB light source needs that they require. There are a couple things, though, that I can’t seem to get a satisfactory answer to. 1) Most places I’ve gone don’t really answer the whole freshwater vs brackish water question. I think I’m going to go with fresh-water, but I was wondering if there are any pronouced advantages one way or the other. 2) Are there certain types of filters that work better for terrapin setups? I’d really appreciate suggestions, since most of the pet stores around here that I’ve gone to have been worthless… 3) Am I going to need to treat my tap-water before using it in my aquarium/feeding tank? If so, where can I find a good reference on what I’ll need to do that? 4) How often should I be prepared to change out the water in my tank? I used to have fish a while back and got used to rotating out about a quarter of the tank every other week, but that was only a 30-gallon thing. 5) Any other suggestions on how to get started would be greatly appreciated.
