Hello everyone. Does anyone know if the Maryland diamondback terrapin regulations would apply to having a captive bred (distinct) subspecies in captivity? I know under the new law, one is allowed (1) captive bred terrapin per person w/o a permit, more with a permit, but I would think if you for instance, had a few Ornates or Texan diamondbacks which are pretty unique from the Northerns, they would be considered non-native. They most certainly are not native, but I never heard much brought up regarding subspecies, just morphs & albinos for other reptiles. I would assume that the bill of sale that is required to prove a turtle has been born in captivity would suffice if it specifies the particular subspecies in question. It’s difficult with terrapins since their traits and coloration can vary so much between subspecies but I just thought it was a valid argument to be brought up. Let me know your thoughts.-Scott
