I just wanted to remind everyone what this group is about. The following is our group description: This is a group created for learning about and sharing information on the captive care and breeding of diamondback terrapins. Please feel free to share your successes and failures as all is a learning experience. We can share what we have learned about raising and breeding these turtles and if we are lucky we can share our egg incubation and hatchling stories as well. If we can become successful captive breeders then hopefully we can reduce the demand on the wild population. Maybe someday we can stop collection from the wild altogether. We are definitely interested in what is happening to them in the wild and applaud all of the efforts to protect them in their natural habitat but we as captive breeders need to help each other and share our success/failure stories so that we may be even more successful in captive management. I don’t know of anyone that would just sell their babies to some person that hasn’t shown that they are willing to do whatever it takes to keep a dbt healthy. I also don’t think anyone would be willing to sell their babies to a pet store for resale. Anyone else out there with thoughts about the subject? Vickie (moderator)
I agree with Vickie – in fact, I would like to go a step farther and recommend that any dbts up for sale should be offered to members of this group first in the interest of promoting captive breeding programs within the group. – Chun
