I am working on a science project with two other students, and we are keeping 4 diamondback terrapins (Names: Ducky (after ugly duckling because it’s different (shell is different, from different nest)(its not ugly), Peek (looks at the other turtles all the time), caliente (spanish for hot, it loves the water heater), and chiceto (spanish for small, it is very small.) in a tank. I have a couple of questions: What temperature should we keep the water at? What percentage of the water should be salt? Should we give them as much food as we want? What should we feed them? Glaeser Walt-P55431February 3, 2003 at 4:54 pm #18261My 2 cents… Water Temp: about 70-76 deg Fahrenheit, winter; anywhere up to 82-84 degrees F (cooler the better) in the summer if they’re sick or not eating, raise the water temp to those upper limits Salt: Not necessary if captive bred (hopefully that’s where you got them!) Food: Base diet of Reptomin floating sticks and or Gammarus pellets, augmented with dried gammarus shrimp; others will have opinions on “treat” food and what live food is safe. Amount depends on age/size. Normally, feed every other day to once every 2-3 days. Amount of food depends on number of turtles. Rule of thumb used to be: as much food as the size of their head or as much as they’d normally eat in like 10 minutes or so… Walt —–Original Message—– From: gore monger [mailto:g0rem0nger@…] Sent: Monday, February 03, 2003 2:39 PM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] Uh… Hello I am working on a science project with two other students, and we are keeping 4 diamondback terrapins (Names: Ducky (after ugly duckling because it’s different (shell is different, from different nest)(its not ugly), Peek (looks at the other turtles all the time), caliente (spanish for hot, it loves the water heater), and chiceto (spanish for small, it is very small.) in a tank.
