I have had my DBT now for about 2 1/2 years… and he has always been pretty active. Recently he has been basking a lot.. I have never really been taught a lighting regiment as far as the basking light, but his shell looks pretty dried out. Moving on. Last night he really wasnt interested in getting off of his basking platform. He had pooped on it a few times. He saw me and finally started to crawl over only one eye open at first. I dry docked him over night and he seems a lot better this morning. I havnt done a full water change in about 3 months, have 1/2 changed it and dont believe that is the issue… any ideas, suggestions? The bottom of his shell is also very crispy/flaky.

hey chris, water quality should always be your major concern no matter what kind of aquatic animal you are keeping, i do a full water change every week and uses eden filter for my turtles and they never have any shell problem, the thing is when they start to develop rotten shell it is very likely to leave a permanent scar, try keep another tank of expensive goldfish, my personal expereience is if you can handle high class gold fish then you won’t have any problem in raising turtle, the principle is the same!
